How to choose Hair-extensions HairOverHeel.jpg

Hair Extensions. They are great to add a couple more cm/inch  or  Volume into your hair, without waiting a long time to let them grow by themselves.

There is a massive hair-extension  market to choose from. I know very well, how challenging it can be to pick the right hair-extension product in this mass market that is overflowed with cheap and bad quality hair of doubtful origin. If the supplier can’t tell you where the hair is coming from, you should stay away from the hair. It is not unusual that the hair is taken from dead bodies, graves or swept together on the floor. When choosing the best hair for  your   hair-extensions , you should check whether they are made form human or synthetic hair. Not only will human  hair last longer, but it will also look like your real hair and can be treated like it. With synthetic hair you can not use any heat such as blow-dryers or heat-irons. You can also not swim with them. Generally speaking, the cheaper the hair-extesnions, the lower the quality. Real remy human hair is very expensive. The higher the quality, the higher the price. If you follow a grading system, this system is totally invented by the Chinese hair-industry and has no legal regulation. It is mainly a Chinese fantasy and very hard to base the hair-quality on. The origin of the hair is not the only factor, however, the processing technic is directly related to the strength and quality of the end-product. The chemicals needed, to sanitize and strip away the original color to produce  different curl patterns and colors, are very strong and can effect integrity of the hair depending on method used. When a higher quality of chemicals and a more artful approach to processing is used, the results are higher quality and thus higher price. Don’t be blended  by the silicon shine and softness of some hair products.

The main factors  to help  you choose your perfect  hair-extension ,

100 % synthetic hair: with technological  advances, synthetic hair has  become better and better. In some cases, it is difficult to tell the difference, with the texture and the diameter it feels almost like human hair: The most appealing aspect to synthetic hair is that you  can wear it right out of the box with no, or little styling. The fiber used has memory for wave, curl and volume, which lets hair bounce right  back into place, with minimal effort. The downside is that it lacks on versatility. It can not be styled into many different ways. Only special, heat-friendly synthetic hair it treatable with blowdryers and curling irons , otherwise it will just melt away. Keep in mind that even heat-friendly fiber can be difficult to style and is more resistant to change. Synthetic hair also has a shorter life-duration than human hair and is cheaper than human hair.

% synthetic % human hair: hair-extensions mixed with synthetic hair and human hair. Be careful, this is mostly sold as “human hair”, but for a “much cheaper” price.

100%human hair: human hair has the most natural look and feel. It is remarkably soft with a shine and movement that is not easily duplicated in synthetic hair. Human hair can be cut and styled to suit your personal taste. There are generally four basic types of human hair used : Chinese, Brazilian, Indian and European/Caucasian. Chinese Hair has a thicker diameter, with results in the hair being extremely straight. It is a bit more resistant to curl and  an there fore be harder to style. Asian hair is found in greater supply and is less costly. Indian and Brazilian hair has a thinner diameter , closer to that European hair  but with more texture. European hair is the most soft with the finest diameter, but due to the increasingly limit supply in the marketplace, it is more expensive.

100 % human remy hair: remy human hair is considered a premium option.  Remy is the method to  bundling human hair to keep roots and ends in the correct direction. Hair-extensions made from remy are often tangled free because the cuticles of the strands are in the same directions and don’t get caught against each other, also it feels silky and soft. Remy hair is also  the healthiest because it is picked one strand at the time.

100% virgin hair: virgin hair is chemical and manually unprocessed human hair that is collected form a single donor. It can be Asian , Indian, Brazilian or European etc. hair. The virgin  hair is remy hair that has not been altered by any dyes or perms, bleaches or harsh washes. It has the original hair color form the donor. There are mostly darker colours in Asia or the lighter ash browns in Europa/Caucasian. It is the most expensive.

The difference between  double drawn and single drawn hair: single drawn hair is the standard thickness that many hair-extensions are available in. It is cheaper than double drawn hair. The top is wider than the bottom, it creates a v-shape hairstyle, less volume and can look scrawny. With double drawn hair-extensions, 90% of the hair have the same length, it is much more expensive than single drawn hair, top and bottom are equal and it creates a u-shape, it has much more volume and it gives a thicker look.
